About OCT
Ottery Community Theatre is an amateur society formed in 1985 following the very successful Colway Theatre Trust production of Ottery’s community play ‘The Ballad of Tilly Hake’ by Sheila Yeger. The society’s objective is ‘”to promote the performing arts and to encourage public appreciation of such arts in the community of Ottery St Mary and District”. Since its formation, the society has staged some memorable productions. Have a look at our Past Productions galleries for a glimpse of what we do.
All of OCT’s productions have been (and continue to be) organised without the benefit of a permanent home; rehearsals are held in a variety of places including the United Reformed Church and the Institute. It is only during the weekend preceding a performance that the cast can “tread the boards” at the Institute, and the technical and construction crews work miracles every year in turning an empty space into a theatrical wonderland. This also means we have urgent need of suitable premises to store props, costumes and sets, so if you have any storage facilities that we could rent from you, please get in touch. Despite these difficulties, the standard of productions is a huge credit to the cast, crew and production team.
New members are always welcome. If you would like to join in the fun in any capacity whether on stage or off, feel free to contact us!
We'd like to thank Ottery Town Council for their continued support of our productions through grants across the years for items such as new stage legs and a set of beautiful t-shirts for our front-of-house team.
